I bought Aqualung's ceedee a few months back because I heard one of his songs in the grocey store whilst shopping for lunch between classes. I never, besides this once, buy much of anything without reading up on it, listening to song samples, determining if it's worth my while and my hard-earned cash. but at this point I had just aced an exam that I studied hours for, I hadn't spent a dime in what seemed like forever, and I realized that I was eating a grapefruit for lunch, and not because I really wanted grapfruit, but because it seemed like the healthiest and cheapest bet for noontime vittles at 45 cents on sale. So I caved. I went to Best Buy on my way back to class and picked up the ceedee for 11 bucks, and as I sat in my car with my headphones on (not my ultra-cool Maxells) eating my grapefruit, I realized that almost every other song on the album was a washout for me. I mean, they were pretty blah. Slow. Yawnsville. I thought that was a pretty lame way for my first compact disk impulse buy. I mean, come on.
But I still liked that one song, Brighter Than Sunshine, and I drove home that day, one of the first sunshiny days of the semester after many dreary ones, with the windows down and my speakers quaking with sound, my heart boring a hole through my chest wall and soaking in some glimpse of summer. I breathed in, out, smiled. What a feeling.
