I just saw this movie tonight and it was.. well, it was beautiful. I've added it to my list of influential films-to-see. If you haven't seen it, see it.
I saw that movie last year, and wept and wept. It left quite an impression on me... the thought of what the Nazis used human body parts for disgusted me so deeply, and then I realised that we in America today have just as little regard for human flesh: we can kill our infants and call it our choice. We are no better than the Nazis of Germany, but we have a curtain behind which to hide the evil: we call it, science.
it left an impression on me that antonio begnini was
one of the funniest comic entertainers of our times. he
wrote/produced/acted absolutely brilliantly in that film.
He is an incredible actor, yes. And, Marti, beyond how we are already using humans as refuse, our country is edging closer to anti-semitism, as is Europe. It really is true that if history is not remembered, it will be repeated. I worry about that sometimes.
Did you watch the version with sub titles or english oice overs? I watched the one with voice overs... I liked it once I learned to ignore their moths moving... It was very very sad. And also funny. The part where he teaches the school children about the belly button has become a classic quote in our family. :-)
"The body is beautiful!"
heh. i saw the one with a voiceovers. At first I was dissappointed, because I love watching movies with subtitles and moving mouths distract me. Within five minutes, though, I got used to it too.
I just saw The Pianist. I was stunned. It was beautiful, it was terrible, it tore my heart out, it gave me nightmares, and it was a story I will never forget.
