I've now developed an indefatigable love and, I daresay, passion for Scrubs. I watched Garden State what seems like a million years ago now and I was totally unimpressed the first time, mostly because I was tired and completely, utterly fixated on the fact that Mark had his arm around me (it was early on in the dating days, what can I say). I didn't want to watch it the second time, but when I did, I couldn't take my eyes off of it, I was so absorbed in the complexities of the characters, the way they all seemed so simple at first glance but were so very mixed up underneath. I wanted to take them home with me. I cried when she cried, I cried even more at the very end. I loved that movie, man.

We went to see The Last Kiss, the movie that was supposed to be some sort of late-twenty-something version of the early-twenty-something movie that was Garden State. It wasn't very good, mostly consisting of lots of awkward scenes and semi-boring ennui, which despite my love of a good cloud of grey ennui, wasn't very thrilling.

For this reason, I resisted watching Scrubs. I try not to get into teevee because it just takes up too much of your life in terms of staring at a box all day. A brain melt, if you will, of hours and hours a week where you have to watch this or that show to stay up to date on progress and stuff, and I just don't have the time (or brain) to waste these days. Finally, one fateful night, at Nick and Christine's, we watched about five episodes of Scrubs in quick succession over plates of Stine's incredible chicken and rice, and I have been utterly unsalvagable ever since. I have to have it. We can't help but download the episodes when we miss them (which is every week now that Mark works Thursday nights), we watch them almost as religiously as I did the X-Files, which in Catholic terms would render me the Patron Saint of Piety, Our Blessed Lady of The Black Oil, Usted Senora del Dracut del Scully. That's how religiously I watched the X-Files.

I LOVE YOU ZACH BRAFF!!!

abbeynatalie portman is no clementine. kate winslet kicks tail. i had to get that out. i think your comments explain why i hated garden state. i watched scrubs before and have ingrained in my head that zach braff is only serious long enough to give the punchline. he's kind of like jim carrey in a way. he will never be able to totally mask the comedian in my mind. almost there. but not. i should be a critic for a day job.

CassieNow now. I'll have you know that Eternal Sunshine is our OTHER Mark and Cass Movie. The three movies we tend to watch over and over and over are Garden State, Donnie Darko, and Eternal Sunshine. i always see millions of parallels between our personalities and GS and Eternal Sunshine. Not so much with Donnie Darko, but, you know I would if I could. So don't be too quick to poo-poo! And another thing is that I have a longstanding hatred for Jim Carrey... or I always thought I did. But then the Truman Show came along... and Eternal Sunshine... and A Series of unfortunate Events... and now I think I basically love him except for Ace Ventura.

~`StineWhoohoo! I've passed on the addiction. I resisted Scrubs forever cause I kind of just thought, eh, it's only of those crazy drama fads that will hopefully go away eventually (COUGH LOST COUGH PRISON BREAK COUGH). I was unaware that it was funny until a friend of mine showed me various clips of the wonderfully cynical Dr. Cox (Apparently his personality reminded her of me, go figure). I saw one clip with the janitor... and I was hooked. *cackles evilly* And now you can't get enough either.... BLARHARHARHAR. All that means is you'll have to come over and watch our dvd's. =D I now OWN YOU. BLARHARHARHARHAR!

CrystalOh my. I heart movies and TV so much. Too much, probably. Except my show of choice right now is "Grey's Anatomy." It's sad, I know, but so worth it. GS and Eternal Sunshine are pretty equal for me, and when I say equal, I mean, they're both right up there on my list, vying for a top-5 position. Truman Show I will forever adore...and X-Files? Girl after my own heart, Cass. Girl after my own heart.

BrianScrubs is definitely funny. I've never got into watching every episode of any sitcom-type show, though, so I haven't watched it faithfully... just a few episodes here and there. "Eternal Sunshine" is great.

JenEternal Sunshine was strange. And they could have completely done without the professor doctor dude and elijah wood and that chick. Sorry Cassie. I tried. ;-)

johnhah. it's embarrassing to admit to watching scrubs. i'm choosey in revealing that information. but this is timely because i rented some of season 3 this week. (although it seems like the dialogue's getting really bad already. everyone's talking like dr cox.) you reminded me of how i, too, got hooked onto zach braff by watching garden state. i'd rented it with one of my then-housemates, and we finished watching it, and i said so slowly, 'huh. i think i like it.' (the housemate had fallen asleep.) oh zach. it's been the beginning of something so beautiful.

DänikaAbbey, oh abbey. Thank you so much for saying what I wanted to. I adored Kate Winslet as Clementine, and Natalie Portman felt a bit flat to me after that. That movie still gives me shivers. I haven't ever watched "Scrubs," partially so that I won't become obsessed with it; my almost sister-in-law Jenna absolutely adores Zach Braff, so, you know...I have to be able to make fun of it. ;)
